As ALLIES, we will explore deafness vs. Deafhood, Colonialism, and Audism so we can re-frame our thoughts. Enlighten ourselves on the dimensions of being Deaf and understand the impact the \u201csystem\u201d had on Deaf people. Leave workshop as a stronger ally!<\/p>\n

The Allies in Deafhood workshop have been made possible by Deafhood Foundation, Deaf Action Center and Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Service, Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. DARS is an approved RID sponsor for continuing education activities. This program is offered for 0.6 CEUs and assumes some knowledge of the topic.<\/p>\n

To register and pay the $60 fee for the workshop, 1. <\/strong><\/em>Email Chriz at chriz@deafhoodfoundation dot org to register and get on the list. <\/strong><\/em>Then 2. <\/strong><\/em>Pay either by credit card or check no later than Friday, January 16th and be sure to indicate that your payment is for the Allies Workshop-DAC.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

To pay by credit card or debit card, use the PayPal website to send money directly to admin@deafhoodfoundation dot org To pay by check, send to Deafhood Foundation, 249 West Jackson Street # 303, Hayward, CA 94544. Please note that registration fee is nonrefundable.<\/p>\n

The language of the workshop is in American Sign Language (ASL).<\/p>\n

ASL fluency is required.<\/p>\n

A JOURNEY INTO DEAFHOOD<\/strong><\/p>\n

All-day Workshop for Deaf People<\/p>\n

As a group of Deaf people, we will explore the word \u201cDEAF\u201d and learn what the Deaf World was like prior to 1880. We will also learn about the aftermath (Milan Conference) and explore its effects.<\/p>\n

Through critical examination, framing and re-framing, our presenter, Butch Zein, will discuss our history, the dimensions of Deaf people, Colonialism and the Deafhood Vision.<\/p>\n
