It brings about accountability, responsibility and trust to the individuals that the profession serves.\u201d(RID Code of Professional Conduct) Under the illustrative behavior of the second tenet \u201cProfessionalism,\u201d you will find the responsibility to \u201cjudiciously provide information or referral regarding available interpreting or community resources without infringing upon consumers\u2019 rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In order to assist in complying with this obligation, this session will provide insight on two things: (a) recent court decisions describing the obligations of colleges and graduate schools in serving deaf students; and (b) recent joint guidance from the U.S. Department of Education and Department of Justice related to the \u201ceffective communication\u201d requirements for public schools. The presenter will be Brian East, an senior attorney in the Austin office of Disability Rights Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Participants must take the pre and post tests and keep their webinar screen active at least 70% of the time to earn CEUs. Texas BEI CEUs are approved (.1). If you need RID CEUs, contact an RID CEU provider in advance of the session to request PINRA approval to earn CEUs.<\/p>\n<p>CART (Communication Access Real-time Translation) will be provided.
