POSITION INFORMATION
\nLocation – Multiple Locations
\nHours – Day and evening classes
\nPosition Focus – ASL levels 1 through 4
\nSalary – Salary is assigned according to the Adjunct Faculty Salary Scale
\nFLSA Status – Exempt
\nCriminal Background Check – Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all Staff and Faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC’s College Police department.<\/p>\n

JOB PURPOSE<\/p>\n

To instruct students in American Sign Language courses in accordance with College policies and procedures.<\/p>\n

Department Chair, Human Services<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS<\/p>\n

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.<\/p>\n

Instructs students in courses in the American Sign Language discipline. Provides learning activities that stimulate student involvement and encourage critical thinking.
\nServes on college-wide and departmental committees as needed. May assist with registration processes.
\nMaintains regular office hours to assist students; responds to students’ emails and voice mails in a timely fashion; performs accurate assessment of student performance.
\nMaintains professional competencies in the subject area and currency in instructional methodologies through professional associations and professional development.
\nMay perform other related tasks as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, and\/or Executive Vice President.<\/p>\n

KNOWLEDGE<\/p>\n

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

Extensive knowledge of American Sign Language linguistics, deaf history and deaf culture.
\nKnowledge of effective instructional techniques and innovative modes of course delivery adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
\nMust be knowledgeable about and capable of using current technologies in the classroom and to convey online course content.
\nUnderstanding the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges.
\nSensitive issues relating to a diverse student body.
\nPrinciples and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.
\nWorking cooperatively with colleagues.
\nPreferred<\/p>\n

Experience with various ASL curriculum.
\nSKILLS

COMPUTER SKILLS<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom and online learning as well as to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, grades, etc.).<\/p>\n

Preferred<\/p>\n

Knowledge of MAC and PC, advanced knowledge of Power Point, experience with Blackboard.<\/p>\n

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n

Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.<\/p>\n

Work is routinely performed in a classroom or office setting.<\/p>\n

WORK EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n

Preferred<\/p>\n

Experience teaching ASL at a community college or university.<\/p>\n

EDUCATION<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

Master’s degree or above in American Sign Language; or Master’s degree or above and 18 hours in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, and\/or ASL linguistics-related coursework. SACS requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline. \nPreferred<\/p>\n

Master’s degree or PhD in American Sign Language.<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

This is a Security Sensitive position. Pre-Employment Criminal History Checks are required. Official transcripts are required. Reliable transportation may be required for teaching in multiple campus locations.<\/p>\n

Foreign Transcripts<\/p>\n

Applicants who have degrees earned from educational institutions located outside of the United States are required to have their transcripts evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service prior to applying for Faculty and\/or Adjunct Faculty positions. If the transcripts are in a foreign language, applicants also need to have their transcripts translated prior to applying for ACC job opportunities.<\/p>\n

ACC Benefits Overview<\/p>\n

Full-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and\/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 90 days of employment.
