APPLY NOW <\/p>\n<p>Mark your calendars!!! <\/p>\n<p>June 12-15 2008<\/p>\n<p>SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf<\/p>\n<p>Big Spring Texas<\/p>\n<p>20 Mentees <\/p>\n<p>20 Mentors<\/p>\n<p>4 Meta Mentors<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t miss out on our history in &#8220;All coming together for one<br \/>\npurpose&#8221; the making. Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf has<br \/>\ntrained 20 mentors and 30 mentees in Phase I and another 15 mentors<br \/>\nand 15 mentees during Phase II along with 4 Meta Mentors. That&#8217;s 35<br \/>\ntrained mentors and 45 mentees working together in a one year period.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are to arrive Thursday June 12 between 1-9 p.m. with<br \/>\ntraining all day Friday and Saturday and be finished before noon on<br \/>\nSunday.<\/p>\n<p>Trainers: Meta-Mentors Ginger Bennett, Mike McMillion, Carol<br \/>\nWashington, Erma Webb <\/p>\n<p>CEU&#8217;s Texas BEI and RID<\/p>\n<p>Over 14 hours of CEUs will be awarded for the first segment of the<br \/>\ntraining in June. In addition Independent Study CEUs can be earned<br \/>\nduring the six month mentor\/mentee partnership. <\/p>\n<p>There is no cost for the training. A nominal fee of $75 is for room<br \/>\nand meal service. Applicants must provide their own travel. The<br \/>\nairport of choice is Midland\/Odessa and a shuttle will be available. <\/p>\n<p>The information will be forwarded to those accepted for participation<br \/>\nas will driving instructions for those carpooling or driving. <\/p>\n<p>Criteria for applying: <\/p>\n<p>Applicants must be a member of TSID and commit to the six month<br \/>\nmentor\/mentee partnership <\/p>\n<p>Mentors: Texas BEI Level III and above, Advanced or Master; RID<br \/>\nCI\/CT; NIC Advanced or Master; NAD Level III or above; for at least<br \/>\nfive (5) years or have a college degree (RID CI or CT or NIC or Texas<\/p>\n<p>BEI II will be considered with preference to above). <\/p>\n<p>Mentees: Non-certified interpreter; Texas BEI Level I, II, III, Basic<br \/>\nor Advanced; RID CI or CT. Preference will be given to interpreters<br \/>\nworking in the field. Mentees will be required to bring a short list<br \/>\nof their interpreting\/signing concerns and a five minute DVD, CD, or<br \/>\nVHS sample of their skills that might demonstrate those concerns. <\/p>\n<p>Deadline for applications: Must be postmarked by April 15. After<br \/>\nprocessing the applications, acceptance letters will be sent on May 1<br \/>\nwith further instructions and information. The participants will sign<br \/>\nand send the acceptance letter and appropriate fees (check, money<br \/>\norder, Pay Pal) back by May 15, 2008.
