Topics in the past have included tinnitus, coping skills, and assistive listening devices.<\/p>\n<p>Group classes on coping, facilitating communication, and how to use new listening technology will be provided each day.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the conference and planned social activities, participants will be able to try digital and programmable hearing aids and use various assistive listening devices that work with hearing aids or cochlear implants.<\/p>\n<p>Personnel from the Advanced Hearing Research<\/p>\n<p>Center at the Callier Center will present innovations in hearing research and opportunities for research involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Why Two People?<\/p>\n<p>Hearing loss affects a person\u2019s communication with others. That\u2019s why SIARC is designed for a participant with hearing loss and his\/her communication partner. The communication partner may be a spouse, family member, friend or coworker. Individuals are also welcome to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Guest Speaker<\/p>\n<p>At the conference, a guest speaker will give lectures on Auditory Rehabilitation Topics. The guest speaker will present to SIARC participants as well as UTD students in the AUD program and Callier Faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships<\/p>\n<p>Tuition scholarships may be available. Mail registration form by May 1, 2015 for scholarship consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Evening Activities<\/p>\n<p>There will be special evening activities to utilize the skills learned throughout the week and to experience some of the assistive listening devices in real life situations.<\/p>\n<p>Conference Highlights<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Special Guest Lecture<br \/>\n\u2022 Personal hearing aid check<br \/>\n\u2022 Complete audiological evaluation<br \/>\n\u2022 Technology update and trials<br \/>\n\u2022 Strategies for listening<br \/>\n\u2022 Auditory training activities<br \/>\n\u2022 Hearing assistive technology (HAT)<br \/>\n\u2022 Real world practice with HATs<br \/>\n\u2022 Strategies for repair of communication breakdowns<br \/>\n\u2022 Cultural events: plays, tours or concerts<br \/>\n\u2022 Coordination with your current hearing health provider<br \/>\n\u2022 Cutting edge research reviews<\/p>\n<p>Registration Fee<\/p>\n<p>The registration fee includes all classes, assessments, activities and meals. To insure the highest quality of service and educational experience, registration is limited to ten couples. Submit registration prior to March 1st with $20 deposit per person to reserve a place. If paid in full by May 1, 2015 registration fee is only $350 per couple or $175 per individual. Deposits will be applied to registration fees.
