Dr. Garcia\u0019s<br \/>\nlecture will be on \u001cTeaching Latino Deaf\/ Hard of Hearing Students:<br \/>\nIdentifying and Meeting Unique Learning Needs.\u001d <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Garcia will also give another public lecture on Wednesday, March<br \/>\n26 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Sciences Building, Lecture<br \/>\nHall 2, 2955 S. University Drive on the TCU campus. Her speech topic<br \/>\nwill be on \u001cSupporting Your Deaf Child.\u001d <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Barbara Gerner de Garcia, Professor and Chair of the Department<br \/>\nof Educational Foundations and Research, Gallaudet University,<br \/>\nWashington, DC, teaches Multicultural Foundations of Education, as<br \/>\nwell as an online course Teaching Latino Deaf Students. Her<br \/>\nexperience in multicultural issues includes 17 years as a teacher of<br \/>\nthe deaf in the Boston Public schools, where she implemented and<br \/>\ntaught in a trilingual program for Latino deaf children. She has<br \/>\nnumerous publications, research, and presentations, as well as<br \/>\nworkshops on multicultural issues, and extensive involvement in local<br \/>\nand national organizations dealing with multicultural education. She<br \/>\nholds degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, and Boston<br \/>\nUniversity. In addition to English and ASL, she is fluent in Spanish,<br \/>\nhas advanced knowledge of Portuguese, and knowledge of several other<br \/>\nlanguages. <\/p>\n<p>The events are free and open to the public. Services provided: CART,<br \/>\nsign language interpreter and a Spanish translator; childcare<br \/>\nservices will not be provided.
