Or, have you ever felt uncomfortable receiving interpreter services and can\u2019t explain why?<\/p>\n<p>In this workshop, geared toward people who are deaf or hard of hearing, you will learn how to work with interpreters, and about the interpreters\u2019 code of professional conduct. Other topics covered in the workshop are:<\/p>\n<p>? Definitions of key terms such as interpreter, certification, licensure, ethics, behavior, and grievance<\/p>\n<p>? Differences between a qualified interpreter and someone who knows sign language<\/p>\n<p>? How the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of\u00a0Professional Conduct applies to interpreters\u2019 behaviors<\/p>\n<p>This workshop is designed to give consumers who are deaf or hard of hearing more confidence when working with interpreters and to help them access the communication services they need for success.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Horn, the workshop presenter, works for the DARS Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services as a Program Specialist. Being deaf herself, she is a tireless advocate for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community, in various areas such as interpreting services, senior citizens, and communication skills. Ann is also a certified Level III -Intermediary by the DARS\u2019 Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI). Ann is responsible for continuing education units (CEUs) distributed by DHHS.<\/p>\n<p>In the area of education, Ann works as an adjunct associate professor at Austin Community College (ACC) teaching American Sign Language.
