{"id":31362,"date":"2015-07-13T23:26:31","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T04:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=31362"},"modified":"2015-07-13T23:26:31","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T04:26:31","slug":"video-perfect-pitch-tourney-for-deaf-softball-players-held-in-dallas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2015\/07\/13\/video-perfect-pitch-tourney-for-deaf-softball-players-held-in-dallas\/","title":{"rendered":"VIDEO: Perfect Pitch: Tourney for Deaf Softball Players Held in Dallas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Perfect Pitch: Tourney for Deaf Softball Players Held in Dallas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Note: See video below<\/em><\/p>\n<p>July 11, 2015<\/p>\n<p>DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) \u2013 The crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd \u2013 two sounds Larry Young has never heard.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, he explained that doesn\u2019t put him at any disadvantage when out on the diamond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no difference,\u201d Young said through a sign language interpreter. \u201cThe hearing world should understand that we can play as well as they can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, Young was one of more than 300 players who took part in Southwest Softball Association of the Deaf tournament at Kiest Park in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone who participated is deaf or hard of hearing, even the umpires.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are no rule changes or special accommodations.<\/p>\n<p>Young, who severed as a player and coach on the Texas Bullseye team, started playing baseball when he was young.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled becoming frustrated being the only deaf player on his little league team.<\/p>\n<p>However, he explained it never kept him away from playing organized sports.<\/p>\n<p>When he became older and had two son, who are both deaf, he wanted them to realize not being able to hear doesn\u2019t impact their ability to play sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can do everything but hear,\u201d Young expressed.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, Young\u2019s two sons were also his teammates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can play with hearing. I can play with deaf,\u201d said Young\u2019s son, Cy, said through a sign language interpreter. \u201cI just want to play. You just show your skills on the field.
