Deaf Services Advocate<\/strong><\/p>\n

Do you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors? Do you have a minimum of a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Social Work or a related field? Are you Spanish speaking? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, then this full-time, salary non-exempt position, which pays an annual salary of\u00a0$30,000 may be the The LIFT Alliance, and its founding partners Austin Children\u2019s Services (ACS) and SafePlace, is seeking a Deaf Services\u00a0Survivor Advocate. This position serves as an advocate to Deaf domestic\/sexual violence clients to help with their immediate safety needs, navigation of social service systems, and self-determined goals.<\/p>\n

This position also provides input on the outreach activities for the Deaf Services department and makes VLogs for the Deaf Services social media community engagement activities. Our ideal candidate will: be sensitive to client confidentiality and have clear and consistent professional boundaries; be able to respond to people in crisis in a sensitive and trauma-informed way; have the ability to build genuine relationships and express care, concern and conflict in healthy ways; honestly be able to assess own strengths and weaknesses; maintain good attention to detail; and have experience working with a variety of Deaf people (grass roots, Deaf, hard of hearing, Deaf\/blind, late deafened, etc.).<\/p>\n

Requirements: Bachelor\u2019s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field and at least 2 years case management experience; fluency in American Sign Language and life experience or knowledge of Deaf culture; knowledge of trauma and the impact of domestic and sexual violence; knowledge of local social service, social welfare, mental health, and criminal justice resources.<\/p>\n

Must pass all required criminal history background checks; have a valid Texas driver\u2019s license and provide Department of Public Safety proof of driving record acceptable to agency insurers for the past three years. Knowledge of issues and systems related to domestic violence, sexual abuse, or homelessness preferred. Must maintain flexibility and show demonstrated ability to take responsibility for a diverse number of projects and complete them in a timely manner.<\/p>\n
