Personal Stories Needed about Affects of Waiting Lists <\/p>\n
Have lengthy waiting lists for a Medicaid Waiver or other services
\naffected you or your family? <\/p>\n
Are you willing to share your thoughts and experiences regarding the
\nwaiting\/interest lists? <\/p>\n
If so, we would like to hear from you! <\/p>\n
Every two years the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities
\n(TCDD), in conjunction with the Texas Office for Prevention of
\nDevelopmental Disabilities (TOPDD), develops a Biennial Disability
\nReport to the Texas Legislature, Governor and other state leaders.
\nThis report is designed to help policy makers, advocates and other
\npeople understand the range of needs, services and supports for
\nTexans with disabilities and as a guide for future policy development
\nand decision making procedures. The theme for the 2008 report is \u001cThe
\nState’s Allocation of Resources to Provide Long Term Services and
\nSupports for People with Developmental Disabilities.\u001d <\/p>\n
We are looking for individuals with disabilities and family members
\nwho are willing to share their personal experiences with the waiting
\nlists. We would like to know how the delay in obtaining waiver
\nservices has affected your life. We are also interested in any
\nthoughts you have regarding long-term services and supports in the
\ncommunity. <\/p>\n
To help obtain individual stories, TCDD has contracted with Therese
\nPalombi to write short accounts of the thoughts and experiences of
\n10-12 people. We are looking for young and older parents, individuals
\nfrom minority cultures, people from different parts of the state, as
\nwell as people with different types of developmental disabilities.
\nTCDD may also use these stories on an Internet site about Medicaid
\nwaiting lists. <\/p>\n
