{"id":3185,"date":"2008-03-31T10:21:39","date_gmt":"2008-03-31T15:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2008\/03\/31\/entrepreneurs-prosper-at-innovation-conference\/"},"modified":"2008-03-31T10:21:39","modified_gmt":"2008-03-31T15:21:39","slug":"entrepreneurs-prosper-at-innovation-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2008\/03\/31\/entrepreneurs-prosper-at-innovation-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneurs Prosper at Innovation Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Entrepreneurs Prosper at Technology Conference <\/p>\n<p>March 31, 2008 <\/p>\n<p>Two teams sponsored by The Institute for Innovation and<br \/>\nEntrepreneurship at UT Dallas finished \u00e2\u20ac\u0153in the money\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the CEDIC<br \/>\nNew Venture Championship competition held in Arlington on March 26-27.<\/p>\n<p>The competition, held in connection with the World\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Best<br \/>\nTechnology Showcase, was sponsored by the Center for Economic<br \/>\nDevelopment, Innovation and Commercialization, a cooperative<br \/>\ninitiative of the 12 universities making up the Big 12 Conference. <\/p>\n<p>First place and a $10,000 prize went to a medical device company,<br \/>\nMicroTransponder Inc., headed by Will Rosellini. Rosellini received<br \/>\nhis MBA from the School of Management at UT Dallas in 2003 and is<br \/>\ncurrently enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Behavioral<br \/>\nand Brain Sciences. <\/p>\n<p>MicroTransponder is commercializing a wireless neurostimulation<br \/>\ndevice for the treatment of peripheral nerve pain, based on UT Dallas<br \/>\ntechnology originally developed by Dr. Larry Cauller, an associate<br \/>\nprofessor in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. <\/p>\n<p>With the first-place finish, MicroTransponder also received an<br \/>\ninvitation to compete in the prestigious 2008 Global Moot Corp<br \/>\nCompetition sponsored by UT Austin. Dr. Joseph Picken was the faculty<br \/>\nadviser. <\/p>\n<p>Third place and a $2,000 prize went to Pungo Inc., developers of<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ref for the Deaf.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The product, which won the top prize in last<br \/>\nfall\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s UT Dallas Business Idea Competition, was represented in the<br \/>\nCEDIC competition by MBA students Tim Gutschlag and Jonathon Hoak.<br \/>\nRobert Robb was the faculty adviser. <\/p>\n<p>Pungo is developing a patented, portable, wearable vibrating device<br \/>\nto alert deaf participants in sporting events to the referee\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<br \/>\nwhistle, buzzer or other signal used to signal a stoppage in play. The<br \/>\ndevice is based on patented technology conceived by Celia Beron,<br \/>\ncurrently an eighth-grade student in the Richardson Independent School<br \/>\nDistrict. Celia is the daughter of Kurt Beron, a Professor in the<br \/>\nSchool of Economics, Political and Policy Sciences. <\/p>\n<p>Teams from UT Austin, Texas A&#038;M, Baylor, Oklahoma State, New Mexico,<br \/>\nMissouri, and Texas Tech were also represented in the competition. <\/p>\n<p>The Institute for Innovation &#038; Entrepreneurship is designed to<br \/>\nnurtures the devlopment of new ventures at UT Dallas.
