The Texas Relays isn’t the only athletic competition going on in
\nAustin this weekend. <\/p>\n
More than 150 deaf athletes from eight states competed in the first
\never Seeger-Berg Track and Field Classic at the Texas School for the
\nDeaf Saturday. <\/p>\n
One of the organizers said there are athletic competitions for deaf
\nathletes in other sports, but not for track and field which is why
\nthey set up this event. <\/p>\n
“We wanted to set up something where all schools for the deaf could
\ncome for a friendly national competition and get together with them,
\ngive them good self esteem and confidence and also encourage youth
\ndevelopment for the future Olympics,” track and field coach Jesse
\nBailey said. <\/p>\n
Students from nine deaf schools participated. <\/p>\n
Organizers said they hope to make the meet an annual event.<\/p>\n
