Our students are refugees, mainly from Bhutan and a few from Myanmar, most of whom had no formal language before arriving here in the U.S. and are learning to communicate from scratch. They have relied on gestures and “family-invented” sign for most of their lives. Some students are more advanced than others and are close to proficiency, while others are still very much beginners. Because of this spectrum of proficiency level, we believe additional volunteers would allow us to break the class into skill level groups, focus on the student’s individual needs, and allow them to progress at a faster rate. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Classes are every Wednesday, 4:30pm to 5:30pm, in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. The closest major intersection is Northwest Highway and North Central Expressway. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out our online application (link below) and attach a cover letter indicating your interest in assisting with the ASL class. We are trying to expand our classes so if you are interested, but not available Wednesdays, please still reach out to us! You can also contact either individual below for additional information. All potential volunteers must complete the application process before assisting with our refugee students.

Volunteer and External Relations Coordinator
Michele Villarreal
Michele.Villarreal@rescue.org

ASL Instructor – Volunteer
Brenna Brillhart
Brennadlaine@gmail.com

Application to volunteer with the IRC in Dallas:
https://rescueglobal.secure.force.com/application/rc_volunteers__ApplicationForm_Designer?id=a3E31000000HI5V#!mode=view&form=00P3100000TeIJREA3&dev=true

CONTACT PERSON NAME: Kaleigh Tomaso

CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS: Kaleigh.Tomaso@rescue.org

CONTACT TELEPHONE #: 214-461-9781

CONTACT FAX NUMBER: 214-461-9782

Volunteer Opportunity – International Rescue Committee in Dallas DATE: Every Wednesday, except holidays or inclement weather TIME: 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm ADDRESS: 6500 Greenville Ave. Ste. 500 Dallas, Texas The International Rescue Committee in Dallas is looking for volunteers…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[2
24381,19,24388,13347,24380,24382,186
post-32391","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-deaf-news","tag-brenna-brillhart","tag-dallas-dfw","tag-dfw","tag-international-rescue-committee","tag-michele-villarreal","tag-vickery-meadow","tag-volunteer
Volunteer Sign Language Interpreters Needed EMPLOY ABILITY Volunteer Information EmployAbility - Dallas Mayor’s Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities The mission of EmployAbility (formerly known as the Dallas Mayor’s Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities) is to engage the business community to build a diverse workforce…
ASL Educators Needed.
