STAND UP FOR SEPHRA BURKS<\/p>\n

Tyrus Burks is deaf. In high school he met his wife, Sephra, who was
\nalso deaf in high school. They got married and had four beautiful
\nchildren, Tyrus, Jr., Michael, Antonio, and Vivianna. The Burks lived
\nat Colonial Tepeyac Apartments here in Dallas. Colonial Tepeyac was
\ntold by the Dallas Fire Department to install special strobe smoke
\nalarms in the Burks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 two story apartment. Colonial Tepeyac\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
\nmanagement company, Marquis, did not install the correct number of
\nstrobe alarms upstairs and downstairs nor did the complex put the
\nstrobe in the bedroom. <\/p>\n

In the early morning hours of January 9, 2005, a faulty power strip
\nstarted a fire in the downstairs of the Burks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 apartment home. The
\nfire woke Tyrus, and he tried to put the fire out. The fire was too
\nfar advanced. Tyrus and Sephra raced from room to room to save their
\nchildren. While Tyrus was waking up his oldest sons, Sephra with the
\nbaby in her arms went to find three year old Antonio. Sephra tried to
\nexit to the hallway, but it was filled with fire. After the fire
\nSephra was found in the bedroom of their three year old son, Antonio,
\nwith baby Vivianna still in her arms. Sephra burned to death trying to
\nsave her children. Antonio and Vivianna died at their mother\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s side.<\/p>\n

Sephra, Antonio, and Vivianna\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s lives could have been saved but for
\nColonia Tepeyac\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and Marquis Management\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s FAILURE to give EQUAL
\nPROTECTION to their DEAF tenants. The lawsuit against the apartment
\ncomplex managers (Marquis) will begin trial on Wednesday, April 23,
\n2008. The trial will be on the 5th floor of the Dallas County
\nCourthouse in County Court at Law No. 5 before Judge Mark Greenberg.
\nSigning interpreters will be present throughout the trial. <\/p>\n

\nDallas. Stand up in support of Sephra, Antonio, and Vivianna and the
