Illuminations Arts is thrilled to announce a shadow interpreted
\nperformance available to you and your students. Illuminations Arts
\ncollaborates this season with Express Children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Theatre to shadow
\nthe production of Hansel & Gretel on May 8, 2008 at Heinen Theatre on
\nthe Houston Community College Central Campus. Hansel & Gretel by Kevin
\nReese is a delightful musical production. Hansel and Gretel get lost
\nin the woods and stumble upon the Witch\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s gingerbread house. They
\nare so hungry they begin eating. The silly, near-sighted Witch decides
\nto teach the naughty children a lesson about how to treat other
\npeople\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s things. Well, suffice it to say this is a play about
\njumping to conclusions. Nothing is as it seems. A musical adaptation

As you may know, Illuminations Arts has provided interpreting for
\nvarious theatres, large and small, in the Houston area for twenty
\nyears. As well as working with A.D. Players and Express Children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
\nTheatre, we have worked with other professional organizations such as
\nAlley Theatre, InterActive Theater, and University of Houston
\nChildren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Theatre Festival making their performances accessible to
\ndeaf and hard of hearing audiences. Shadow interpreted performances
\nare much more integrated than standard theatrical interpreting.
\nShadowing allows for the full artistic impact of the play because the
\nspeaking actors are \u00e2\u20ac\u0153shadowed\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by an actor portraying the same
\ncharacter through American Sign Language. The performers work as a
\nteam, creating two sides of the same character through their lines,
\nblocking and interaction on stage. <\/p>\n
