Tax free weekend — May 24 to May 26, 2008<\/p>\n
Are you thinking about buying a major home appliance? If so, you
\ncould save up to 8.25 percent on Energy Star appliances during the
\nMemorial Day weekend. Texas shoppers get a break from state and local
\nsales and use taxes on purchases of certain energy efficient products.
\nThe 2008 Energy Star sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on
\nSaturday, May 24, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 26 (Memorial
\nDay). <\/p>\n
Appliances qualifying for the exemption are: <\/p>\n
– air conditioners priced under $6,000 (room and central units) <\/p>\n
– clothes washers (but not clothes dryers*) <\/p>\n
– ceiling fans <\/p>\n
– dehumidifiers <\/p>\n
– dishwashers <\/p>\n
– light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent) <\/p>\n
– programmable thermostats <\/p>\n
– refrigerators priced under $2,000. <\/p>\n
* Because most dryers use similar amounts of energy, Energy Star does
\nnot label clothes dryers. <\/p>\n
