US H.R. 3535, the Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act will reform education for deaf and hard of hearing and blind and visually impaired students. To ensure that: every child who is deaf and every child who is blind, regardless of whether they have additional disabilities, will be properly counted and served; each of a child’s unique learning needs will be properly evaluated. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

JCIH Position Statement – The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing was established in late 1969 and was charged with a two-fold responsibility: first, to make recommendations concerning the early identification of children with, or at-risk for hearing loss and second, newborn hearing screening. The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) endorses early detection of and intervention for infants with hearing loss. The goal of early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) is to maximize linguistic competence and literacy development for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Without appropriate opportunities to learn language, these children will fall behind their hearing peers in communication, cognition, reading, and social-emotional development.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
