Those who do receive a lot of support, you’re so lucky.

I persisted in staying within my caregiving role because in the past I found this quote to be very true:

“I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you miss them terribly after they die.” (H. Jackson Brown, Jr)
This is also true with grandparents and great-parents that I was fortunate to know.

“Creating Moments of Joy” was the title I read on a flyer about the upcoming workshop and at first it didn’t appeal to me enough to drive some distance to that place. Then somehow the brochure on this workshop landed on me. Went online and learned more about the presenter and her book. Found some online book excerpts showing real life examples that can help me include more “fun moments” to my caregiving role. Went and signed up.

Now I’m reading my own copy of “Creating Moments of Joy” and I see in this book a collection of many more ideas and real-life examples that I can really use.

Additionally I’m looking forward to this workshop because this author places emphasis on and also because from many years as a college professor, I often remind myself and many of my students of this:

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” (Many sources of the quote-Internet)

I feel privileged to care for my father and include this quote into my role as his caregiver. I do want to continue creating more happy moments for both of us. Yes, it does get tough at times but I do believe being a caregiver doesn’t have to be “all work and no play”.

I’m now excited to learn from the author and sharing with other caregivers at this workshop.

Hey, Free Adult Care Available!

From my experience of attending past caregiver events that provide a very supportive “adult care” for the loved ones has been helpful in my feeling that while I’m learning new things, my loved one is nearby and socializing with others and knowing the staff are experienced in caring for those with memory issues. This works for me better than setting up someone to sit with my loved one at a home in a very limited setting.

This workshop that I’ve decided to attend in Hudson Oaks provides a free program for loved ones and I know my father will like this because we get to go together and he will feel safe in being able to socialize and have fun knowing that he will return home with me afterwards.

Submitted by
Carolyn Stem, Deaf Caregiver
Email: carolynstem@gmail.com

Interpreted workshop for Deaf Caregivers 8/11/16 – DFW IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO DEAF CAREGIVERS Free Half-Day Workshop for Caregivers!
