Governor\u2019s Committee Partners with TWC for Texas HireAbility Campaign<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The Texas Governor\u2019s Committee on People with Disabilities<\/a> (GCPD) has partnered with the Texas Workforce Commission<\/a> (TWC) and Texas Workforce Solutions<\/a> to launch the Texas HireAbility campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. The campaign is being held in conjunction with National Disability Employment Awareness Month<\/a> to highlight the contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce. Governor Greg Abbott has issued a\u00a0proclamation<\/a> for Disability Employment Awareness Month in Texas, encouraging all Texans to learn more about disability employment while creating more inclusive workplaces and more employment opportunities to support an economy that is made ever stronger by the diversity and full participation of workers with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Texas HireAbility campaign will feature statewide events and resources for employers and job-seekers with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to kick off the Texas HireAbility campaign to connect the significant skills and abilities of people with disabilities with opportunities created by Texas employers,\u201d said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. \u201cThrough this campaign, employers will better connect to these valuable workers to meet their workforce needs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Texas HireAbility resources for employers include a Workplace Accessibility Webinar which employers can access on-demand from the Texas HireAbility website<\/a>. TWC will also connect employers to resources on recruiting, hiring and retaining employees with disabilities through the\u00a0TWC<\/a> Solutions blog<\/a> and other social media channels.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEmployers are always looking for innovative ways to expand their businesses by hiring skilled workers,\u201d said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. \u201cThrough the Texas HireAbility campaign, employers will have access to additional resources to help them connect with this segment of the workforce.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the campaign\u2019s launch in October, TWC will partner with Texas Workforce Solutions offices across the state to promote job and hiring fairs to connect Texas employers with job-seekers with disabilities. These events will be ongoing and will provide opportunities for employers to receive resumes and applications, as well as conduct onsite or post-event interviews. TWC will also partner to support events to help employers learn more about recruiting, hiring and retaining employees with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEmployers move to Texas because of our strong and diverse workforce,\u201d said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez. \u201cI encourage all Texans to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and to support Texas\u2019 commitment to workforce diversity this October and beyond.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
