Interpreters work in a variety of environments where personal safety can be a factor. Deaf individuals work in or utilize services in those same environments and are often not provided access to safety information and protocols. This presentation is designed to help both groups recognize how and why awareness and self-defense skills can assure success in potentially dangerous situations.<\/p>\n

* Learn how to assess the threat level in any environment.
\n* Learn basic skills to identify potential threats.
\n* Practice tactical breathing to slow down the effects of fear and adrenaline.
\n* Identify methods to defuse a situation without the use of physical contact.
\n* Self-defense drills ranging from passive escapes to dealing with more violent situations.
\n* How to respond to an active shooter situation.
\n* How and why situational awareness and self-defense skills must be practiced to assure success in real life situations involving violence.<\/p>\n
