School for the Deaf receives $18,000 from Time Warner Cable, News 8 <\/p>\n
Time Warner Cable and News 8 Austin, its 24-hour news channel, raised
\nmore than $18,000 for the Texas School for the Deaf. <\/p>\n
The money was raised at the annual Kars & Kids classic car and hot
\nrod show, held on the school’s South Congress Avenue campus. <\/p>\n
The school will use the money to buy classroom technology and
\nequipment for its automotive repair program. <\/p>\n
The school recently gave News 8 Austin and Time Warner Cable its
\nPartner of the Year award.<\/p>\n
Real Estate Council raises $45,000 for youth program with art show <\/p>\n
The Real Estate Council of Austin raised $45,000 from the recent
\nGardner-Betts Art Show and Silent Auction. <\/p>\n
The money will go to Project Bridge, a yearlong arts and
\nentertainment program for youths ages 14 to 17 who are on probation. <\/p>\n
The program gives them a chance to express themselves through art and
\nmusic. <\/p>\n
Classes are organized by the Austin Lyric Opera’s Armstrong Community
\nMusic School, which receives a grant from the council. <\/p>\n
Citizens employees’ garage sale nets $15,000 for heart surgeries for
\nkids <\/p>\n
Citizens Inc., an Austin-based insurance company, raised $15,000 for
\nthe HeartGift Foundation through an employee garage sale. <\/p>\n
The money will help pay for heart surgery for children from
\ndeveloping countries. The company has sponsored five HeartGift
\nchildren. <\/p>\n
Two area charitable groups get $2,500 checks from Ryland Homes <\/p>\n
Ryland Homes presented checks for $2,500 each to the Ronald McDonald
\nHouse and Capital Area Food Bank. <\/p>\n
The company, based in Calabasas, Calif., has been building homes in
\nthe Austin area since 1987 and supports a variety of nonprofit
\norganizations through donations, volunteerism and special incentives
\non homes. <\/p>\n
