Spring 2017 (1\/17\/17-5\/14\/17)<\/p>\n

HITT1305.WW9 Medical Terminology I 31770 3 credit hours ONLINE<\/p>\n

Prerequisite to SLNG2371 & SLNG2189<\/p>\n

Summer 2017 \u2013 Additional information available in March 2017<\/p>\n

SLNG2371 – Interpreting in the Medical Setting 3 credit hours – Schedule TBA
\nSLNG2189 – ESC Internship \u2013 Sign Language Interpreting and Translation – 1 credit hour ONLINE<\/p>\n

Michael McMillion will instruct both SLNG2371 and SLNG2189.<\/p>\n

An applicant for a medical interpreter certificate must do as follows:<\/p>\n

1. Provide proof of holding one of the following prerequisite certificates:
\nA valid BEI Level III, IV, V, Advanced, or Master certificate
\nA valid Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Comprehensive Skills Certificate (CSC), Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT)
\nA valid National Association of the Deaf-Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NAD-RID) National Interpreter Certification (NIC) Advanced, or NIC Master<\/p>\n

2. Meet the following qualifications and requirements:
\nBe at least 18 years old
\nHave earned a high school diploma or its equivalent
\nNot have a criminal conviction that could qualify as grounds for denial, probation, suspension, or revocation of a BEI certificate, or other disciplinary action against any holder of a BEI certificate
\nProvide written proof to DARS DHHS that the applicant has completed DARS DHHS-approved courses of instruction in medical interpretation, with at least 80 credit hours
\nSubmit the appropriate application
\nPay any required fees
\nPass the Medical Interpreter Performance Test<\/p>\n
