November Game Nite & ASL Chat – DFW<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s now November- time of Thanksgiving, then comes Christmas, of course.<\/p>\n

May God make it a time of blessing for each of you and yours.<\/p>\n

Here are scheduled times for November Game Nite and ASL Chat dates and times.<\/p>\n

Game Nite will be on Friday, November 11, 2016; 7 pm- here at the NLDF church –
\nNote it\u2019s the 2nd Friday this month-<\/p>\n

New Life Deaf Fellowship church http:\/\/www.nldeaf.com<\/a><\/p>\n

For December Game Nite; need to check with Ginger Sinclair <wltrsinclair@yahoo.com><\/p>\n

Bring \u2018signing hands\u2019 and a liter of soda with a snack for all to share – much appreciated-<\/p>\n

The goal when attending this event is to encourage hearing people to interact in ASL. Therefore, during both Game Nites and the ASL Chat Haven we ask Deaf people to sign with the hearing people and not use their voices as they sign and vice versa. We ask hearing people do the same – not speak with the sign. When you use your \u2018voice\u2019 while you sign, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible for hearing people to incorporate the varied ASL non-verbal markers of face and body to enable communication in ASL. Also, all such ASL non-verbal markers are minimized when Deaf people speak and sign – hence, the end result is that no one is able to achieve the desired ASL communication we, both hearing and Deaf people, desire –<\/p>\n

The monthly ASL Chat Haven will will be in the same place- NLDF church
\nSaturday, November 19, 2016 – 1> 3 pm http:\/\/www.nldeaf.com<\/a>
\nNote the date is 3rd week; Thanksgiving, 4th week<\/p>\n

There will be no ASL Chat in December due to holiday festivities- start up again in January.<\/p>\n

Whether you are chatting or you just sit and observe- you will learn either way. Patience and perseverance are the primary keys to understanding. The main goal of ASL Chat is to enhance your understanding of what a Deaf person is signing, not how well you sign. Whereas, the \u2018target\u2019 people are hearing, Deaf people who were not exposed to ASL and Deaf Community while growing up can benefit from the ASL life stories shared by Deaf persons – whether on DVD or with participants present.<\/p>\n
