DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS <\/p>\n
Reports to the Interpreter Services Supervisor. Responsible for
\nproviding interpretation services for students, teachers, and staff
\nthat are deaf or hard of hearing. Provides interpreting services for
\nstudents, teachers, and staff that are deaf or hard of hearing.
\nPrepares for assignments by reading textbooks; conferring with
\nstudents, instructors and\/or other interpreters. Assists with
\nproviding general office support including planning and coordinating
\nthe scheduling of interpreters as required, maintenance of training
\nmaterials and textbook library. Distribute, collect, and analyze
\nstudent and instructor surveys. Provide training and mentoring to
\nstaff, hourly interpreters, and student interns. Other related duties
\nmay be assigned. <\/p>\n
QUALIFICATION STANDARD <\/p>\n
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must possess required
\nknowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and
\ndemonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the
\nessential functions of the job can be performed. <\/p>\n
Required: Two years interpreting work experience. Knowledge of
\nAmerican Sign Language, interpreting, and deaf culture. Knowledge of
\ninterpreting and transliterating services provided in educational
\nenvironments as well as knowledge of Interpreter Services policies and
\nprocedures. Skill in maintaining an established work schedule.
\nEffectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including
\ntact and diplomacy. Effectively using organizational and planning
\nskills with attention to detail and follow through. Providing
\ninterpreting\/transliterating services in classrooms, meetings, student
\nregistration, testing, tutoring and counseling environments.
\nEffectively working with a diverse and multicultural student body.
\nMaintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.
\nEstablishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
\nDemonstrate proficiency using standard office software applications. <\/p>\n
Preferred: Two years work experience in interpreting in a
\npost-secondary educational environment. <\/p>\n
SKILLS TEST <\/p>\n
Required: Must pass the ACC Interpreting skills assessment. <\/p>\n
EDUCATION <\/p>\n
Required: Associate\u2019s degree or equivalent college level course
\nwork. <\/p>\n
Preferred: Bachelor\u2019s degree in related field. <\/p>\n
CERTIFICATION <\/p>\n
Required: Hold any one of the following: Registry of Interpreters for
\nthe Deaf (RID), CI\/CT, Advanced or Masters Certificate. State of Texas
\nCertification (BEI): Level 4, 5, Advanced or Master Certificates. <\/p>\n

WORKING CONDITIONS <\/p>\n
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Subject to
\nstanding, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and
\npulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds. <\/p>\n

Full-time Faculty, and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time
\nand\/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical
\nbenefits effective the first of the month after their first 90 days of
\nemployment. ACC benefits include medical, dental, life insurance,
\nshort and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D. Adjunct
\nfaculty who meet the specific criteria outlined in the Texas Insurance
\nCode, section 1551.1021 can elect to participate in the State\u2019s
\nGroup Benefits Plan at his or her cost. ACC Hourly (temporary) jobs
\nare not benefits eligible positions. ACC participates in the Teacher
\nRetirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program
\n(ORP). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money
\nPurchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal
\nlaw. The ACC Board of Trustees decided in 1981 that ACC employees
\nwould not participate in Social Security. <\/p>\n
