Responsible for<br \/>\nproviding interpretation services for students, teachers, and staff<br \/>\nthat are deaf or hard of hearing. Provides interpreting services for<br \/>\nstudents, teachers, and staff that are deaf or hard of hearing.<br \/>\nPrepares for assignments by reading textbooks; conferring with<br \/>\nstudents, instructors and\/or other interpreters. Assists with<br \/>\nproviding general office support including planning and coordinating<br \/>\nthe scheduling of interpreters as required, maintenance of training<br \/>\nmaterials and textbook library. Distribute, collect, and analyze<br \/>\nstudent and instructor surveys. Provide training and mentoring to<br \/>\nstaff, hourly interpreters, and student interns. Other related duties<br \/>\nmay be assigned. <\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATION STANDARD <\/p>\n<p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must possess required<br \/>\nknowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and<br \/>\ndemonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the<br \/>\nessential functions of the job can be performed. <\/p>\n<p>Required: Two years interpreting work experience. Knowledge of<br \/>\nAmerican Sign Language, interpreting, and deaf culture. Knowledge of<br \/>\ninterpreting and transliterating services provided in educational<br \/>\nenvironments as well as knowledge of Interpreter Services policies and<br \/>\nprocedures. Skill in maintaining an established work schedule.<br \/>\nEffectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including<br \/>\ntact and diplomacy. Effectively using organizational and planning<br \/>\nskills with attention to detail and follow through. Providing<br \/>\ninterpreting\/transliterating services in classrooms, meetings, student<br \/>\nregistration, testing, tutoring and counseling environments.<br \/>\nEffectively working with a diverse and multicultural student body.<br \/>\nMaintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.<br \/>\nEstablishing and maintaining effective working relationships.<br \/>\nDemonstrate proficiency using standard office software applications. <\/p>\n<p>Preferred: Two years work experience in interpreting in a<br \/>\npost-secondary educational environment. <\/p>\n<p>SKILLS TEST <\/p>\n<p>Required: Must pass the ACC Interpreting skills assessment. <\/p>\n<p>EDUCATION <\/p>\n<p>Required: Associate\u2019s degree or equivalent college level course<br \/>\nwork. <\/p>\n<p>Preferred: Bachelor\u2019s degree in related field. <\/p>\n<p>CERTIFICATION <\/p>\n<p>Required: Hold any one of the following: Registry of Interpreters for<br \/>\nthe Deaf (RID), CI\/CT, Advanced or Masters Certificate. State of Texas<br \/>\nCertification (BEI): Level 4, 5, Advanced or Master Certificates. <\/p>\n<p>APPLICATION PROCEDURES <\/p>\n<p>Required: Pre-employment background check required. <\/p>\n<p>WORKING CONDITIONS <\/p>\n<p>Work is performed in a standard office environment. Subject to<br \/>\nstanding, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and<br \/>\npulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds. <\/p>\n<p>SAFETY INFORMATION <\/p>\n<p>Required: Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working<br \/>\nconditions and behavior.
