Employment Specialist for Deaf (Commission based; Average Salary $41,000)<\/p>\n

Description of Services<\/p>\n

\u2022 writing r\u00e9sum\u00e9s and proposals to assist in placement;
\n\u2022 contacting employers from target lists and developing consumer jobs;
\n\u2022 performing a job analysis;
\n\u2022 reviewing job match information;
\n\u2022 assisting the consumer with job applications, pre-employment forms, practice interviews, and pre-employment testing or physicals;
\n\u2022 accompanying the consumer to interviews and company visits;
\n\u2022 assisting the employer with the Work Opportunity Tax Credit; and
\n\u2022 training the consumer to travel to and from the job.<\/p>\n

The Employment Specialist for the Deaf must have:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Proficiency in American Sign Language (BEI\/NIC or SLPI with intermediate rating)
\n\u2022 Basic Understanding of Deaf Culture
\n\u2022 Experience working with people with hearing loss
\n\u2022 Business acumen to succeed in a commission-only 1099 position
\n\u2022 Strong business development skills for creating new employer relationships
\n\u2022 Strong interpersonal skills
\n\u2022 Crisis management skills
\n\u2022 Good Driving Record
\n\u2022 Clean Criminal Background<\/p>\n

*Must be able to pass 20-hour online course to obtain job placement credential.<\/p>\n

Position: Job Coach for the Deaf ($15-$20 per hour)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Location: San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Description of Services<\/p>\n

\u2022 Train applicants and consumers to use public transportation services or other means of transportation to help applicants and consumers access services and employment.
\n\u2022 Work side-by-side with a newly placed consumer at a job site.
\n\u2022 Analyze the job, and break into manageable components.
\n\u2022 Identify and solve problems before they become crises for the consumer, employer, or co-worker.
\n\u2022 Teach effective job keeping skills to the consumer.
\n\u2022 Use the least intrusive methods possible on the job.
\n\u2022 Gradually reduce the time spent at the job site as the consumer becomes better adjusted and more independent.<\/p>\n

The Job Coach Providers for the Deaf must have:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Proficiency in American Sign Language (BEI\/NIC or SLPI with intermediate rating)
\n\u2022 a high school diploma or GED;
\n\u2022 a varied and successful work history;
\n\u2022 considerable knowledge of employer expectations;
\n\u2022 the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of consumers and employers;
\n\u2022 the ability to analyze a job and reduce it to manageable components
\n\u2022 Clean Criminal Background<\/p>\n

*Must be able to pass 15-hour online course to obtain a job coach credential.<\/p>\n
