DARS DHHS Seeking Raters for Interpreter Evaluation <\/p>\n
This is a notice of Open Enrollment for “BEI Rater Services”. The
\nDARS, Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) is seeking
\nraters to evaluate candidates for interpreter certification. <\/p>\n
This is not a competitive bid and there is no bid package. <\/p>\n
If you are interested in providing rater services and need more
\ninformation, please contact DARS by e-mail at CPG-BSS@dars.state.tx.us<\/p>\n

\nfax number. <\/p>\n
Qualifications: <\/p>\n
Each rater shall preferably possess a Bachelors degree; shall be
\ncertified at Level III, Level IV, Level V, Advanced or Master level of
\nthe BEI certification program and preferably with a minimum of 10
\nyears interpreting experience; shall be a resident of the State of
\nTexas; and must have knowledge of linguistics, sign language theory,
\nand interpreting, and must be able to effectively work in teams. Each
\ninterested rater shall submit a five minute signed video recording
\nintroducing self, including information as to how you will meet the
\nqualifications required, and reasons for desiring to serve as a rater.<\/p>\n
Rater Responsibilities: <\/p>\n
Evaluate the expressive and receptive skills of interpreter
\ncandidates who take the Basic, Advanced, or Master level performance
\ntests by utilizing the prescribed subjective and objective scoring
\nmethodology established by the BEI Board and test development experts;<\/p>\n
Attend mandatory training sessions prior to participating in rater
\nscoring sessions;
\n Shall consistently score within an acceptable standard deviation
\nrange to ensure a high level of inter-rater reliability; and
\n Shall contribute effective dialogue as a rater team member in the
\nprocess of scoring each candidate. <\/p>\n
The rater process involves scoring a candidate’s performance to
\nassess their proficiency in the following areas: <\/p>\n
Spoken English-to-ASL;
\n Spoken English-to-Signed English;
\n ASL-to-Spoken English;
\n Signed English-to-Spoken English;
\n Written English-to-ASL (Sight Translation) <\/p>\n
Upon request by DARS-DHHS, rater services may include proctoring
\nservices on an as needed basis at various testing sites around the
\nstate, and may also include analyzing the skills of a candidate’s
\nvideotaped performance evaluation and composing a report. <\/p>\n
Candidates shall submit a letter of interest; current vitae and two
\nletters of reference from a deaf consumer, an employer, or a
\nprofessional or certified BEI interpreter in good standing. <\/p>\n
Rater services are provided by multiple providers at locations
\nthroughout Texas.<\/p>\n
