Deaf Woman Goes to Austin as State Delegate! <\/p>\n
Fort Worth, Texas: As the Texas State Democratic Convention convenes
\nFriday, June 6, in Austin, Tracey Michol will be among the delegates
\nin attendance. Ms. Michol is deaf and was elected by members of
\nPrecinct 1296 in Senate District 10 to represent them at the State
\nConvention. Ms. Michol is now campaigning for a national delegate
\nposition to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, in
\nAugust, which will be determined at the State Convention. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is like a dream come true!\u201d signed Ms. Michol. \u201cIt
\nhasn\u2019t been easy, and there have been challenges each step of the
\nway, because interpreters were not readily available.\u201d <\/p>\n
Ms. Michol explains, \u201cThe communication barrier is a huge one to
\ncross. I was fortunate. I had the support of my Precinct Captain,
\ncaucus attendees, campaign and party staff, volunteers who knew some
\nsigns and professional interpreters, who also volunteered to interpret
\nfor me. They have helped make this possible for me, the deaf
\ncommunity, and people with disabilities overall. I want to show that
\nwe all have abilities and that we all benefit when they are put to
\ngood use.\u201d <\/p>\n
Ms. Michol is hoping to be elected by her district to represent them
\nand the Great State of Texas at the National Convention in August. She
\nis campaigning for votes and planning a fundraising campaign. All
\ndelegates are responsible for their own expenses. With the help of
\nTracey and Friends, which are grass root\u2019s supporters, no budget,
\nbut lots of heart and talent, a blog is in the making at

\n. It includes a signed video presently on YouTube. Ms. Michol hopes
\nto bring more people with disabilities into the political process. <\/p>\n
Ms. Michol received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business
\nAdministration from Gallaudet University in Washington D. C. and her
\nMasters Degree in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education from Lamar
