Special thanks to
Jack Rosenthal, Chair, and his committee: Marianne Sasseen, Larry
Campero, Lisa Wynn and Maxine Satarino for making that weekend a
successful one. We had a few other organizations, outside of the
Dallas vicinity, who took their time to attend and they, too,
expressed how much they learned from this wonderful learning
experiences. The luncheon was provided by CSDVRS which was enjoyed by
all. We were able to eat and chat, in between the workshops. Thank
you, Kathy Walters.

The “UNCUT ASL” ,with Theron Parker, was quite a performance that
has given some mixture of opinions among the audiences. I most
certainly hope to see more Deaf/HH performers to give their talents at
our clubhouse. Please do contact me, as we always love to see more ASL
stories, folklores/legends, and/or jokes.

When “The Bee Movie” was showing, during Family Movie Night, many
of us found ourselves relaxed while watching the movie. Since we would
like to try to make ithis our monthly event, Cindi Nagy shared with me
that “I AM LEGEND” with Will Smith, will be shown on Friday
evening, June 20. Even though it is a PG-13 I have been informed there
are some scary moments in this movie.

Many were awed by the renovation of our BAR AREA! That’s right –
the two Ashley guys (Preston Jr. and Preston Sr.) got into their tool
gears again. Not only the bar area, the restrooms are being
“uplifted” as well. I must apologize to those who came and found
only ONE toilet working for three weekends. I appreciate your patience
and forgive our dust! Also I want to thank all those who made
donations and/or left tips to help the building fund.

I want to express my appreciation to the following individuals: Laura
Lemmon-Moore, Maxine Satarino, David Normand, Kent Reneau, Chris
Nicolay, Dennis Hill, Brent Going, Jimmy Cooksey , and anyone else
whom I haven’t named, who took a moment to stop in and helped out a
bit in between. No DAD is not done! The Ashley guys could use
anyone’s help with finishing up the restrooms and bar area. Please
do email me, cashley@dallasdeafclub.org

, if you do desire to come and help DAD.

Preston Sr. and his beloved red Ford F150 truck visited the Dallas
city garage dumps frequently that he could be an employee for the City
of Dallas one day! After he made so many trips there and back to DAD
his poor truck ran into several nails. It amazed me how the truck
survived with only three flat tires after all of those trips.

A couple of weeks ago Deaf Happy Hour (DHH) had their gathering at
our clubhouse for the first time,. Wow, what a wonderful turnout.
There were two baseball teams doing their food fund raising to support
their teams to attend the upcoming SWAD Baseball Tournament. One team
was selling Mexican food and the other team was selling BBQ hot dogs
and chicken. We had approximately 200 people there and, in my
perspective, everyone had a great time.

Note to all North Texas Deaf Poker players, the committee decided to
reschedule July 5th NTDP to July 11th , Friday evening, due to
Independence Day being on Friday, July 4th. The committee felt that
many of you may be traveling for vacations for a long weekend. For
those of you, who are not traveling, come to DAD on July 4th, at
4:00pm. Laura Lemmon-Moore, chair, plans tol have a cookout plus
games. Please bring a potluck to share. Please see our July 4th flyer
for more information.

Please see the following upcoming schedules:

June 13 – DCCD Seniors 1:00pm

June 14– Closed – 1:00-6:00 pm

Open after 6:00pm

June 20 – Family Movie Night, “I am Legend” 7:30pm FREE

June 21 – Closed – 8:00am – 5:00pm

Dallas Black Deaf Advocacy 3:00 pm

CINGO 8:00 pm

June 27 – General Meeting 7:30pm

July 2 – Tejas Seniors 10:00am

July 4 – Celebration with a 4th of July Party! 4:00 pm

July 11 – North Texas Deaf Poker (Friday night) 8:00 pm

July 12 – Sexual Harrassment workshop @7:30 p.m.

Please continue checking our website first, before coming to DAD, for
any updates and/or any rescheduling which may occur –
http://www.dallasdeafclub.org

DADly yours,

Cathy Edler-Ashley

President

cashley@dallasdeafclub.org

—

BETTER IP RELAY – EVERYWHERE! i711.com makes all your relay calls better.
Better web calls.
