2009 ADARA Conference – Harnessing the Future<\/p>\n
April 15-19, 2009, San Antonio, Texas<\/p>\n
Invitation<\/p>\n
The American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association (ADARA) invites
\nproposals for its conference in San Antonio, Texas for April 15-19,
\n2009. ADARA\u2019s mission is to facilitate excellence in human service
\ndelivery with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This is
\naccomplished by:<\/p>\n
Enhancing the professional competencies of the membership;<\/p>\n
Expanding opportunities for networking among ADARA colleagues; and<\/p>\n
Supporting positive public policies for individuals who are Deaf or
\nHard of Hearing.<\/p>\n
The 2009 Conference will have three (3) tracks: Rehabilitation\/Low
\nFunctioning, Mental Health\/Chemical Dependency and
\nTransition\/Independent Living. Proposals focusing on these tracks will
\nbe given priority.<\/p>\n
Deadline<\/p>\n
A completed program proposal must be emailed by July 14, 2008. The
\nemail should contain an attachment which includes: presentation title,
\nname(s) and information of presenter(s) with coordinating presenter
\nlisted first, presentation abstract, presentation learning objectives,
\npresentation summary, presentation description, compensation package
\nrequested, A\/V needs, communication mode of presentation, interpreting
\nneeds and anticipated audience. All proposals will be considered
\nunderstanding budgetary constraints may limit choices \u2013 proposals
\nwith sponsorships identified are truly appreciated (see www.adara.org
\nfor Conference sponsorship opportunities). Conference presenters are
\nalso strongly encouraged to submit an article for publication in the
\nconference proceedings.<\/p>\n
The conference will open on April 15, 2009 with several a one day
\npre-conference opportunities. Pre-conference training\u2019s will be
\nscheduled for either half day or all day time slots. Conference
\nbreakout sessions during the full conference (April 16 \u2013 19) will be
\nscheduled for 90 minutes but back to back sessions will be considered
\nto create 3-hour training opportunities for more in-depth learning
\noutcomes. In addition, poster sessions will provide the opportunity
\nfor presenters to interact more closely with conference participants
\nand to showcase best practices or program models without doing a
\nformal presentation.<\/p>\n
The conference offers an opportunity to bring a variety of
\nprofessionals together including vocational rehabilitation counselors,
\nmental health professionals, licensed professional counselors,
\nindependent living service providers, educators, transition
\nspecialists, and community-based rehabilitation providers. When
\ndeveloping your proposals, please keep the needs and interests of
\nthese groups in mind.<\/p>\n
