He was pronounced deceased at Memorial
Hermann The Woodlands Hospital Thursday morning, hospital personnel
confirmed.

The Texas Department of Public Safety could not confirm details of
the accident.

Willis resident George Gray, 41, was killed during a multiple vehicle
wreck around 5:30 a.m. on I-45 near the Airtex exit in Harris County,
according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Landrum was still dealing with the death of his 17-year-old sister,
Jaclyn Landrum, the family member said. The Oak Ridge High School
junior was killed when her vehicle crashed into the rear axles of an
18-wheeler that was turning into a driveway April 16. She was
northbound on the I-45 feeder road, south of FM 1488.

Adam Landrum, who was deaf, graduated from ORHS in 2001.

In a separate accident, Gray was southbound on I-45 when the right
side of his 2002 Ford Explorer sideswiped the driver’s side of a 1997
Jeep Cherokee, causing the Jeep to spin onto the outside shoulder,
according to an HCSO press release.

“He was driving at a high rate of speed,” HCSO Lt. John Legg said
Gray proceeded southbound and the front left side of his vehicle
struck the back right side of a 1999 Chevrolet Astro van, according to
the press release. The second collision occurred nearly 850 feet south
of the first one and caused both the Explorer and van to spin out of
control, strike the inside retaining wall and continue traveling south
on the inside shoulder for more than 200 feet before coming to a stop.

“You have a situation where you have an out-of-control driver as a
result of the first accident,” Legg said. “There’s no indication he
was trying to flee the scene of the first collision.”

The impact of the second collision caused Gray’s Explorer to flip
over after striking the retaining wall and slide on its roof for
approximately 190 feet before stopping, according to a HCSO press
release.

Gray died at the scene. The driver of the van had minor injures that
included cuts and scrapes, but remained at the scene, according to a
HCSO press release. The 39-year-old woman driving the Jeep was able to
stop her vehicle and pull to the outside shoulder. She and her
9-month-old child, who was in a car seat in the right rear, were not
injured.

Kassia Micek can be reached at kmicek@hcnonline.com
<mailto :kmicek@hcnonline.com>

Link:
http://www.hcnonline.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=19809735&BRD=1574&PAG=461&dept_id=639299&rfi=6

—

BETTER IP RELAY – EVERYWHERE! i711.com makes all your relay calls better.
Better web calls.
