The Office of the Governor\u2019s Committee on People with Disabilities announces the winners of the 2017 Lex Frieden Employment Awards (LFEA). Named for Texas disability rights champion Lex Frieden, the awards are bestowed upon Texans who have displayed a commitment to empowering their employees, co-workers, and fellow Texans with disabilities.<\/p>\n

In his 2017 Texas Disability Employment Awareness Month Proclamation, Governor Abbott said, \u201cAn important part of [the Texas] workforce is Texans with disabilities, who make invaluable contributions to Texas employers \u2026 we must engage in disability employment awareness to ensure that all Texans have the equal opportunity to contribute to the workforce that is the backbone of our great state\u2019s robust economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nLarge Employer Award<\/strong> \u2013 MAXIMUS (San Antonio)
\nMedium Employer Award<\/strong> \u2013 FCI, Bureau of Prisons (Bastrop)
\nSmall Employer Award<\/strong> \u2013 Crepe Crazy (Austin)
\nNon-profit Employer<\/strong> \u2013 Food Bank of Corpus Christi (Corpus Christi)
\nMartha Arbuckle Award for a Local Committee Project<\/strong> \u2013 Houston Commission on Disabilities<\/p>\n

The winners of the 2017 Lex Frieden Employment Awards will be honored at a ceremony co-hosted by the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities and the Austin Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities. The ceremony will be held on October 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, Austin, Texas. The keynote speaker for this event will be Geronimo Rodriguez, Chief Advocacy Officer for Seton Healthcare Family and Providence. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with a free buffet beginning at 5:15 p.m.<\/p>\n
