AUSTIN, TX (June 30, 2008) \u2013 American Repertory Ensemble (ARE)
\npresents its 3rd Summer Performance Season, Passion at Play, July
\n25-27, 2008 at the McCullough Theatre on The University of Texas at
\nAustin campus.<\/p>\n
Passion at Play is the latest creation from the cutting-edge mind of
\nARE Artistic Director David Justin. Fresh off the heels of a
\nwell-received performance at Big Range Dance Festival and 15
\nnominations from the Austin Critics Table, Austin’s most original arts
\norganization presents another ground-breaking performance featuring
\nprincipal dancers from the San Francisco Ballet, New York City Ballet,
\nand Twyla Tharp’s “Movin’ Out.”<\/p>\n
The audience will travel the globe on an emotional journey with
\njazz-influenced composer Michael Torke in the vibrant and sassy new
\nwork, “Speed Dial,” the playful, romantic Spanish flavor of “Valses
\nPoeticos,” the British elegance of “The Dance House,” and the American
\nreinvention of the classic “L’Apres-midi d’un faune” by ARE’s own
\nDavid Justin.<\/p>\n
In this concluding show of its third season, ARE will produce seven
\nAustin premieres and present international dance stars Tina LeBlanc
\nand Joan Boada of the San Francisco Ballet, Michelle Gifford of the
\nNew York City Ballet, Anna Laghezza of Miami City Ballet, Griff Braun
\nand Eric Otto of the American Ballet Theatre, and Laura Feig, recently
\nfrom Twyla Tharp’s award-winning “Movin’ Out.” These premier dancers
\nwill partner with Austin-based, world-class musicians Karla Hamelin
\n(cello), Aurelien Petillot (viola), Amra Catovic (flute), Alice Wang
\n(clarinet), Graeme Francis (percussion), John Carroll (trumpet) and
\nYu-Hsuan Liao (piano).<\/p>\n
As always, this collection of artists combines live music, dance, and
\ntheatre in an accessible way to create a one-of-a-kind show that
\npushes the boundaries of traditional arts. Along with stretching these
\nnotions at each performance, ARE advances the level of arts available
\nlocally by acting as a city ambassador and introducing international
\nperformers to the beauty and hospitality of Austin. Local students and
\nperformers also gain the opportunity to practice with, learn from, and
\nconnect to the world’s best.<\/p>\n
