Thousands to be \u201cGuided\u201d to Dallas for Witnesses\u2019 first annual
\n3-day event in American Sign Language <\/p>\n
Denton, TX\u2014An estimated 2,000 attendees from a dozen south-central
\nstates ranging from Colorado to Tennessee will come to the Denton
\nTexas Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for a three-day event
\nfocusing on finding reliable guidance. What makes this convention
\nunique from the 304 others like it being held throughout the United
\nStates this summer is its presentation entirely in American Sign
\nLanguage. In previous years, the Deaf and others who communicate using
\nASL have traveled to California, Florida and New Jersey for this
\nannual event. With the addition of Texas, those who previously
\ntraveled some distance for this event in ASL will more readily be able
\nto take in the encouraging information presented during the three
\ndays. <\/p>\n
Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses will host this first annual Sign Language
\nconvention at the Denton Texas Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses
\nbeginning Friday, July 25, 2008 at 9:20 a.m and continuing through
\nSunday, July 27. The 2008 \u201cGuided by God\u2019s Spirit\u201d District
\nConvention is open to the public and all are invited to attend any
\nportion or the entire program. For those individuals who are both deaf
\nand blind, tactile interpreting will be made available. Admission to
\nthe convention is free, and no collections will be taken. The program
\nwill focus on why reliable guidance is needed today and where people
\ncan turn to for trustworthy advice in all aspects of life. <\/p>\n
Witnesses from the 36 Sign Language congregations and groups
\nattending this event in Denton anticipate an excellent turnout in view
\nof the newly added central location. This is especially so since the
\n2007 convention, which had the theme \u201cFollow the Christ!\u201d, was
\nvery enthusiastically received on the West and East Coast. Witnesses
\nalso look forward to welcoming many non-Witnesses to the convention.
\nWitnesses believe that all who attend will benefit from the practical
\ninformation presented. <\/p>\n
Previously mentioned, throughout the United States there will be 305
\nconventions in 76 cities. Worldwide, there are nearly 7,000,000
\nWitnesses in over 101,000 congregations. In 2007, more than 12 million
\npeople attended over 3,200 of the Witnesses\u2019 conventions around the
\nworld. <\/p>\n
