TAD board meeting will take place this coming Saturday at Holiday
\nInn\u2019s El Tropicano in San Antonio from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM on July
\n26. TAD members and non-members are welcome to observe the meeting.
\nVisitors are welcome to say a few words prior to the meeting. Board
\nmeetings are not the same as public forums, so visitors will have to
\nwait until after the meeting ends to share any comments,concerns or
\nideas. <\/p>\n
A copy of the agenda is added to this announcement after the two
\nenclosed photos. Those two photos will show you why TAD is celebrating
\ntwo awards and one pageant honor that were given at the 49th National
\nAssociation of the Deaf Conference in New Orleans during the week of
\nJuly 6. TAD board director Gertie Galloway was given the Spirit of the
\nNAD Award for her many contributions to the Deaf Community and for
\nhelping with the lst Annual National Leadership Training Conference
\nthat TAD, TSD and NAD hosted last April in Austin. TAD President Steve
\nBaldwin received the Robert M. Greenmun Memorial Award for local
\nleadership. NAD President Bobbie Beth Scoggins, also a resident of
\nAustin, presented awards. Accepting the award for Baldwin were
\ndelegates John Mills and Larry Evans and member Betty Bounds. <\/p>\n
Like icing on the cake for TAD, our Miss Deaf Texas Katherine Murch
\nof Corpus Christi nearly won the Miss Deaf America crown by one notch
\nover 20 other contestants. The other highlight for Miss Murch was
\nwinning the Platform Presentation Award during the pageant at New
\nOrleans Marriott Hotel where 1600 people registered for the NAD
\nConference. Winner of the crown was Miss Deaf Maryland and should she
\nresign or become ineligible, Miss Murch will step in to finish the
\nreign for the next two years. Murch will attend the board meeting to
\ngive a short talk and TAD will present a surprise for her and those in
\nattendance. <\/p>\n
During the meeting there will be reports about the NAD Conference,
\nTAD business matters, items, and issues, 2009 TAD Conference
\ninformation in SA, and much more. See the attached agenda for more
\ninformation. Minutes of the July 26 meeting will be posted within two
\nweeks on the TAD website http:\/\/www.deaftexas.org

TAD is a non-profit 501 (3) C organization that was established in
\n1886. There are about 650 members, including online E-newsletter
\nsubscribers. TAD is an advocacy state association with the National
\nAssociation of the Deaf and many laws like ASL, Relay Texas, TSD 51%
\nboard make-up, commission for the deaf and other legislative mandates
\nhave benefited Deaf Texans. For those who wish to join TAD, there is a
