Worth,<br \/>\nTX.<\/p>\n<p>The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) I-IV performs routine to advanced<br \/>\nvocational rehabilitation work in support of the mission, goals and values of<br \/>\nthe Texas Workforce Commission. VRC I-IV applies critical thinking skills and<br \/>\nsound decision making in performance of routine rehabilitation work in the<br \/>\nVocational Rehabilitation (VR) program. This program assists eligible<br \/>\nindividuals with disabilities to prepare for, retain, obtain and\/or advance in<br \/>\ncompetitive, integrated employment and includes assisting students with<br \/>\ndisabilities to transition successfully from high school to postsecondary<br \/>\neducation and employment.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate will perform work using the applicable policy, guidance, and<br \/>\nthe electronic case management system. The VRC I-IV is hired by the VR<br \/>\nSupervisor with the approval of the VR Manager, and works independently, with<br \/>\nmoderate to minimal supervision by the VR Supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>Position requires American Sign Language competency skills due to this caseload<br \/>\nbeing Deaf\/Hard of Hearing. A demonstration of writing and signing skills (using<br \/>\nAmerican Sign language) will be expected.<\/p>\n<p>GENERAL DUTIES:<br \/>\n&#8211; Assists eligible individuals with disabilities to prepare for, retain, obtain<br \/>\nand\/or advance in competitive, integrated employment and includes assisting<br \/>\nstudents with disabilities to transition successfully from high school to<br \/>\npostsecondary education and employment<br \/>\n&#8211; Develops and maintains relations with community referral sources, businesses,<br \/>\nemployers and schools<br \/>\n&#8211; Collects and analyzes all information necessary to make an accurate<br \/>\neligibility decision (e.g. medical, psychological, school records, employment<br \/>\nrecords, etc.)<br \/>\n&#8211; Assists the customer in choosing an appropriate employment by analyzing<br \/>\ninformation to determine the customer\u2019s strengths, resources, priorities,<br \/>\nconcerns, abilities, capabilities and interests, and matching that information<br \/>\nto the current job market<br \/>\n&#8211; Works with the consumer to develop a plan of services designed to achieve the<br \/>\nconsumer\u2019s identified employment goals<br \/>\n&#8211; Ensures timely, cost-effective provision of services and consumer progress<br \/>\ntoward achievement of their employment goal<br \/>\n&#8211; Develops and implements a process leading to successful job placement<br \/>\n&#8211; Applies best value purchasing practices and uses available, comparable<br \/>\nbenefits and services to ensure effective use of public funds<br \/>\n&#8211; Performs other duties as assigned<\/p>\n<p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<br \/>\nA Master\u2019s degree with a major in Rehabilitation Counseling OR a Master\u2019s<br \/>\ndegree in counseling or related degrees such as Special Education, Social Work,<br \/>\nPsychology, or Human Services from an accredited college or university plus one<br \/>\nyear of related work experience OR current Certified Rehabilitation Counselor<br \/>\n(CRC) certificate or current Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential.<br \/>\nApplicants selected who do not have a Master\u2019s degree in Rehabilitation<br \/>\nCounseling or CRC certificate or LPC credential will be required to meet the<br \/>\nComprehensive System of Personnel Development educational requirements within a<br \/>\ntime frame established upon employment. This will entail taking specific courses<br \/>\nthat focus on the professional role of a Rehabilitation Counselor.<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:<br \/>\nOther Master\u2019s degree plus two (2) years related work experience, OR<br \/>\nBachelor\u2019s degree with a major in vocational rehabilitation from an accredited<br \/>\ncollege or university plus one (1) year related work experience; OR Bachelor\u2019s<br \/>\ndegree with major in Counseling, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology,<br \/>\nor Public Health from an accredited college or university plus two (2) years<br \/>\nrelated work experience; OR Other Bachelor\u2019s degree plus three (3) years<br \/>\nrelated work experience.<br \/>\nCopy of official transcripts, certifications and\/or credentials will be<br \/>\nrequested at the time of interview.<\/p>\n<p>This position involves up to 30% travel, and method of transportation is the<br \/>\nresponsibility of employee. Counselors are required to travel to reach their<br \/>\nassigned consumers on a regular basis. Thus, travel is required for this<br \/>\nposition.<\/p>\n<p>This is a career ladder position, and depending on required qualifications and<br \/>\nexperience, may be filled at any level from a VRC I to VRC IV.
