\"acc<\/a>Fall Registration is going on now at Austin Community College (ACC), and our classes are filling up fast!<\/strong><\/p>\n

ACC is one of the largest community colleges serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students \u2013 there are currently more than 100 D\/HH students enrolled from Texas and other states, as well as from other countries, who are taking workforce, developmental and college credit courses.\u00a0 While students who are Texas residents may qualify for the tuition waiver, out-of-state students often receive support from their TWC\/DARS\/VR agencies for tuition, books, housing,\u00a0and food while attending ACC.<\/p>\n

Austin Community College has an excellent ASL ESOL (English for Speakers\/Signers of other Languages) program that is designed for direct communication in ASL and written English\u00a0http:\/\/www.austincc.ed<\/wbr>u\/esol\/deaf\/<\/a>.\u00a0 ASL fluent Instructors who are also certified in Deaf Education teach our ASL-ESOL classes.\u00a0 We offer free Tutoring using both Deaf and hearing tutors fluent in ASL, with access to computers, webcams, and other technology to help you succeed. The ACC Interpreter Services offers equal access to communication for ACC students, staff, and faculty who are deaf\/hard of hearing and provides Interpreters, CART, and speech-to-text\/captioning services.\u00a0 A Deaf Counselor provides registration, counseling, college transfer and workforce planning assistance for students.<\/p>\n

ACC has more than 235 degrees and certificate programs and our Deaf students major in virtually every field ranging from Jewelry to Engineering, Automotive, Physics, Building Construction, Renewable Energy, Social Work, Radiology, Education, Welding and more!\u00a0 ACC has Articulation Agreements with both NTID and Gallaudet University for transfer of college credits from one school to the other, and the Gallaudet University Regional Center- South (GURC-S)\u00a0\u00a0www.austincc.edu\/<\/wbr>gurcsouth<\/a>\u00a0is located on the ACC Riverside Campus.<\/p>\n

Since ACC does not have student dorms, we have recently identified some off-campus housing with the University Coop Services, which offer secure, affordable and deaf-friendly options.\u00a0 Laurel House has about 70 residents.\u00a0 Rent is around $650\/month and includes food, wifi, and utilities – a great bargain!\u00a0 In exchange for this reduced rent, students are required to participate in shared governance and work in the house for 4 hours a week (cooking, light cleaning, etc.). This is a really secure environment and a wonderful opportunity for deaf and hearing students to build a true learning community!
