The victim
receives a call supposedly from a deaf person. They will be using the
Texas Relay program to make their call. Thus you cannot speak directly
to them. The “caller” will claim to have a vehicle that needs
thousands of dollars of work. They wish to ship it to the victim’s
shop so he can perform the work. The schemer wants to charge $1,920 on
a credit card. The victim is to send $920 to the third party shipping
company that will bring the car to the victim’s shop and return it
to owner when it is finished. The catch is the victim loses his $920
since the credit card is either stolen or out of date. The transport
company is a fake. NOTE: You do not have to be a body shop to be
targeted-this type scam targets all sorts of businesses in the Coastal
Bend.

Other Coastal Bend businesses targeted with similar Texas Relay
related scams include:

Dance studios

Hotels/motels

Individuals running classified ads

Limousine services

The reasons the schemers use Texas Relay programs are:

It’s a free call (even international)

Victim does not get to talk directly, making questions hard.

It is impossible to detect foreign accents and voice inflections.

It is a shame that a great program, Texas Relay, that enables the
deaf to communicate by telephone is used for such scams.

Source: http://www.kiiitv.com/features/consumer/26029164.html

—

BETTER IP RELAY – EVERYWHERE! i711.com makes all your relay calls better.
Better web calls.
