Pre-Certified Interpreter Training Opportunity! Summer Institutes 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the Summer Institute series that HHS offers to pre- certified interpreters. It is a week- long training and it is offered at several colleges. HHS is offering 4 sessions this summer with dates in Ft. Worth, Houston, South Texas\/ Valley and San Antonio.<\/p>\n

The HHSC Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (ODHHS) has partnered with various entities to offer several ‘Summer Institute’ trainings for pre-certified interpreters again this year!<\/p>\n

Participant feedback from the 2018 Summer Institutes included:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very beneficial for me as\u2026 I don’t have many opportunities to be able to practice with a group of people and have someone critique my work. I was able to see what areas I tend to struggle in the most and now I know some ways I can try to practice and increase my skill.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe insight from the training was extremely helpful in knowing my true interpreting hindrances.\u201d<\/p>\n

“The feedback and information were priceless and I learned so much!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you so much for hosting an amazing workshop! I have learned a lot through the one-one mentoring and the lessons\u2026. the strategies I learned \u2026. I feel more confident in taking my test.\u201d<\/p>\n

Each training in the Summer Institute Series consists of intensive, week-long interpreting skill building workshops, with a specific target audience. Participants will have the unique opportunity to practice and take a mock test, both at the beginning and at the end of the training week!<\/p>\n

At this time, DHHS plans to sponsor the following FOUR options in the 2018 Summer Institute Series:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Fort Worth Summer Institute: June 2 – 9, 2019<\/strong>
\nTarrant County College<\/strong>
\nRegistration Fee: $100.00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have (1) already passed the Test of English Proficiency (TEP), and (2) taken, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 65)<\/p>\n

Houston Summer Institute: June 23 – 27, 2019<\/strong>
\nUniversity of Houston<\/strong>
\nRegistration Fee: $100.00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have either (1) graduated from an ITP program and taken the Test of English Proficiency (TEP), OR (2) taken, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 70)<\/p>\n

South Texas\/Valley Summer Institute: July 14 – 19, 2019<\/strong>
\nUniversity of Texas – Rio Grande Valley<\/strong>
\nRegistration Fee: $100.00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have (1) already passed the Test of English Proficiency (TEP), and (2) taken, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 65)<\/p>\n

San Antonio Summer Institute: July 28 – August 2, 2019<\/strong>
\nSan Antonio College<\/strong>
\nRegistration Fee: $100.00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have (1) already passed the Test of English Proficiency (TEP), and (2) taken, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 65)<\/p>\n
