Wagner, Vice President; Lynn Z. Null, Secretary; Ronald<br \/>\nE. Sutcliffe, Treasurer; Sean Gerlis, Region I Representative; Michael<br \/>\nK. Berger, Region II Representative; Liz Hill, Region III<br \/>\nRepresentative; and James \u201cManny\u201d Johnson, Region IV<br \/>\nRepresentative. <\/p>\n<p>They will join continuing members of the NAD Board: Julie C. Bourne,<br \/>\nRegion I Representative; Jack L. Cooper, Region II Representative;<br \/>\nLissette Molina, Region III Representative; and Astrid Amann<br \/>\nGoodstein, Region IV Representative. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new NAD Board of Directors is ready to take on a more<br \/>\nstrategic focus,\u201d said Scoggins. \u201cThis builds on the synergy of<br \/>\nthe recent and highly successful 2008 NAD Conference, which was very<br \/>\ndifferent from previous gatherings, which in turn provides the impetus<br \/>\nfor the board to advance the civil, human, and linguistic rights<br \/>\nagenda of the NAD, also with emphasis on diversity in every way<br \/>\npossible.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Scoggins continued, \u201cI also wish to express our heartfelt gratitude<br \/>\nto past members of the NAD Board for their leadership, expertise, and<br \/>\ncommitment during the last term: Trudy Suggs, Secretary; Thomas J.<br \/>\nDillon, Treasurer; Yerker J. Andersson, Region I Representative;<br \/>\nLinsay Darnall, Jr., Region II Representative; Genie Gertz, Region IV<br \/>\nRepresentative; and Nathie L. Marbury and Thuan Thi Nguyen, Appointed<br \/>\nMembers. I am also delighted that they have expressed their intent to<br \/>\nremain involved with and be of support to the new NAD Board. <\/p>\n<p>The NAD Board of Directors will hold its first meeting of the new<br \/>\nterm from 9 am to 5 pm on Friday, August 22 and from 9 am until 5 pm<br \/>\non Saturday, August 23, at the NAD Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD.<br \/>\nAgenda items include selection of appointed members, 2008 conference<br \/>\nwrap up, approval of board and conference meeting minutes, review of<br \/>\nconference priorities and resolutions, establishment of strategic and<br \/>\nstanding committees, selection of committee chairs and board liaisons,<br \/>\nfundraising and membership recruitment targets, and selection of 2010<br \/>\nconference site. As always, board meetings are open to observers. <\/p>\n<p>Board members will undergo a closed all-day orientation session on<br \/>\nroles and responsibilities on Thursday, August 21, with review of<br \/>\ngovernance processes, communication protocol, and transparency. That<br \/>\nevening, a small fundraiser generously sponsored by CSDVRS will be<br \/>\nhosted at the home of Julie Bourne and Matt Lockhart. This will also<br \/>\nkick off NAD Across America fundraisers to be held across the country<br \/>\nduring the new term. <\/p>\n<p>On Friday, August 22 from 4 to 7 pm, a Community Open House will be<br \/>\nheld at the NAD Headquarters, made possible by the generous<br \/>\nsponsorship of Viable. This is a wonderful opportunity for the public<br \/>\nto meet and mingle with the NAD Board as well as tour the Headquarters<br \/>\nand meet staff.
