NEWS BRIEFLY: “UT-Dallas earns accreditation for child development
\ncenter” <\/p>\n

The University of Texas at Dallas’ Collier Center recently earned
\naccreditation for its child development program from the National
\nAssociation for the Education of Young Children. <\/p>\n
To earn accreditation, a program must pass 80 percent of the
\nassociation’s 400 criteria, which include a review of the center’s
\nteaching faculty members and their teaching methods. <\/p>\n
The center offers care and an education curriculum for children
\nbetween the ages of 6 weeks and 6 years of UT-Dallas and UT
\nSouthwestern Medical Center employees and offers a preschool deaf
\neducation program for the Dallas Independent School District. <\/p>\n
“Parents know they are getting the best care,” said Don Owens,
\nspokesman for the association, referring to the program receiving its
\naccreditation. <\/p>\n
The association established its accreditation system in 1985 to set
\nprofessional standards for early childhood programs and to help
\nfamilies identify high-quality programs. <\/p>\n
The accreditation term lasts five years, and an accredited center is
\nsubject to random assessments from the association. <\/p>\n
