Lots of people like to hear rumors – the juicier the better. I’ve
\nheard several rumors in the past three weeks, but they have all been
\nfalse, so I am now starting some TRUE rumors. <\/p>\n
1) Jesus Lutheran Church of the Deaf is NOT moving. We have been at
\nthis location across from TSD since 1958, it is paid off and debt
\nfree. We are NOT moving and we are NOT closing. We’ll be here for a
\nlong, long time. This is the BEST location for a Deaf church and we
\nhave a fantastic neighbor right across the street, so here we will
\nremain. <\/p>\n
2) Child Protective Services (CPS) has NOT told us that we can’t have
\na child care. They did offer to help us become licensed if we wanted
\nto become a full day child care, but we told them no, we don’t want to
\nbecome a full day child care. A child care center must be licensed if
\nthey have more than 6 children and operate more than 4 hours a day.
\nOur child care did not meet those requirements, so we didn’t need a
\nlicense. We decided to drop the child care and start the
\ntutoring\/homework program because it will be better for the child and
\nthe family. <\/p>\n
3) We are NOT canceling our youth programs on Wednesdays and
\nThursdays. We will continue to offer programs for Elementary, Middle
\nSchool and High School students. Parents and TSD staff are always
\nencouraged to attend and\/or volunteer. <\/p>\n
4) We will NOT stop supporting and defending TSD. Since our ministry
\nstarted in 1931, Jesus Lutheran Church of the Deaf has been proud of
\nTSD and the job they do. We see that the administration, faculty and
\nstaff work hard to teach and protect the Deaf children put in their
\ncare, and for that we are thankful and we will continue to do all we
\ncan to work with them, defend them and support them. <\/p>\n
5) Jesus Lutheran Church of the Deaf will continue to offer Parents’
\nNight Out on one Friday per month from 6:00 PM until midnight. We
\ndon’t offer them during the summer because we can’t get volunteers
\nfrom UT ASL classes, but now that school is starting again, we will
\nsoon announce our first Parents’ Night Out for this school year. <\/p>\n
6) I am NOT running for Miss Deaf Texas! I am a guy, I am not pretty,
\nI am not young. Actually this is not a rumor I have heard, but I
\nfigure if you have read this far, you could use a smile – so smile! <\/p>\n
