You Can make a Difference<\/p>\n<p>Voting Rights Seminar and Accessible Voting Machine Demonstration<\/p>\n<p>Free food, friends, and info about your voting rights, what more<br \/>\ncould you ask for? <\/p>\n<p>In a partnership with the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities<br \/>\n(CTD), Advocacy, Inc., the Heart of Central Texas Independent Living<br \/>\nCenter, the Waco Mayor\u2019s Committee on People with Disabilities and<br \/>\nthe McLennan County Elections Office are hosting a voting rights<br \/>\nseminar. The fun, informative and interactive presentation gives you<br \/>\nthe opportunity to learn your rights as an active voter, by focusing<br \/>\non how the Help Americans Vote Act (HAVA) affects you. <\/p>\n<p>The event will be held at Executive Plaza, 6801 Sanger Ave., Room 230<br \/>\non September 9th (2008) from 4:30 \u2013 6:00 PM. Interpreters will be<br \/>\nprovided. <\/p>\n<p>HAVA benefits voters with disabilities. American poll workers receive<br \/>\naccessibility training to ensure your right to vote privately and<br \/>\nindependently. Furthermore, voting machines are now accessible to<br \/>\npeople with disabilities. <\/p>\n<p>The seminar will give you a chance try out the new voting machines<br \/>\nand gain access to voter registration materials, as well as resources<br \/>\nin your community. CTD will also provide information about voting by<br \/>\nmail, curbside voting and important voter deadlines, such as the<br \/>\nOctober 6, 2008 deadline to register. <\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t make the seminar, need more information about your<br \/>\nvoting rights, or want to report a violation, contact Advocacy,<br \/>\nInc\u2019s voter hotline at 1-888-796-VOTE (8683). Know your rights at<br \/>\nthe polling place\u2026 Your vote makes a difference! <\/p>\n<p>In 2002, President Bush signed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), one<br \/>\nof the most sweeping election reforms in the last 40 years, into law.<br \/>\nHAVA has improved the administration of elections throughout the U.S.<br \/>\nwhile creating new mandates for accessible voting machines, polling<br \/>\nplace accessibility and training of poll workers. Since 2003, the<br \/>\nCoalition of Texans with Disabilities (CTD), as a member of the<br \/>\nstate\u2019s HAVA Committee, has been working closely with the Texas<br \/>\nSecretary of State to develop and maintain the state\u2019s response to<br \/>\nHAVA mandates. <\/p>\n<p>To effectively implement and educate Texans on HAVA, the Office of<br \/>\nthe Secretary of State and CTD, continue the VOTEXAS program and are<br \/>\nworking with Texas\u2019 254 counties as well as various civic<br \/>\norganizations across the state to ensure that the VOTEXAS message is<br \/>\nheard in every region of Texas. <\/p>\n<p>CTD and the Waco Mayor\u2019s Committee and the McLennan with<br \/>\ndisabilities are reaching out to and educating McLennan County voters<br \/>\non how HAVA will affect them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>BETTER IP RELAY &#8211; EVERYWHERE! i711.com makes all your relay calls better.<br \/>\nBetter web calls.
