My name is Ashley Greene-Woods. I&#8217;m a doctoral candidate at Lamar University. I am currently working on my dissertation study regarding whether the language of use during evaluation has an impact on language assessments with Deaf children.<\/p>\n<p>Before I discuss my study further, I want to briefly introduce myself and explain my background. I have worked in Deaf Education for more than a decade in various roles at all grade levels, from kindergarten to 12th grade. Regardless of the grade level, I always had the same concern about students&#8217; language assessment results. I often found discrepancies between test results and performance levels. Frequently, the child would perform at a higher level than what the assessment indicated. On a personal note, I have two young children, 11 years old and 3 years old. As a mother, I know the importance of making sure my children are developing appropriately and on track. If they are not on track, I understand the importance of getting them back on track or establishing support services.<\/p>\n<p>I am professionally and personally invested in this study. This study will use a language assessment produced by Pearson for children between 0-7 years old: Pre-School Language Scales -5th edition (PLS-5). With the PLS-5, I am looking for Deaf children between 3-, 4-, and 5- years old who sign. It does not matter if their parents are Deaf or not. I will provide the test in either ASL or English word order to see if the language of use during evaluation has an impact on the results. If you have a Deaf child between 3-5 years old and you may be interested in participating, please contact me.<\/p>\n<p>The study will be conducted at a local library of your choice at a time that is convenient for you. You will be asked to stay with your child. All information will be kept confidential, no names or identifying information will be used in this study. If you&#8217;re interested, please contact me.
