Texas School for the Deaf to Celebrate Class of 2020 Virtually<\/strong><\/p>\n

Virtual Commencement Ceremony \u2013 7:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thursday, May 28, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

Austin, Texas \u2013 May 28, 2020 \u2013 Sixty-five Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) seniors will participate in the school\u2019s first ever virtual commencement ceremony at 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Like many other schools across the state, TSD decided to host the senior graduation ceremony virtually due to the social distancing requirements and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Claire Bugen, TSD Superintendent says, \u201cMoving to a virtual graduation ceremony was an extremely difficult decision to make. Our seniors participate in many memorable end-of-year traditions at the school. Regardless, tonight we will honor and celebrate the Class of 2020 for their many accomplishments.\u201d<\/p>\n

TSD\u2019s valedictorian and Build Ford Tough Football Player of the Week star Kodi Lee, has shown commitment not only on the football field but in academics too. After graduation, Kodi plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), seek a career in graphic design, and continue his missionary work abroad.<\/p>\n

Salutatorian, Ethan Nunez, has been at TSD since 2011. During his time at the school, he was active in robotics, yearbook, and football. His biggest accomplishment was earning an Occupational Skills Award (OSA) Computer Science Certificate through a partnership with Austin Community College, Texas Workforce Commission, and TSD.<\/p>\n

Regarding the Class of 2020, Bugen says, \u201cI am extremely proud of this graduating class for their strength and resilience through this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m especially excited that 37 of our graduating seniors have received acceptance to two- and four-year colleges and universities.\u201d<\/p>\n
