I’m Ashley, I’m a student at RIT/NTID and work under the Deaf Health Lab at the NTID Research Center on Culture and Language as a research assistant. My research team has a study about telehealth experiences and/or opinions. Any person who identifies as deaf or HOH or has a hearing loss & 18 or above are qualified for the study, it does not matter if they have experienced telehealth or not. We want to understand and catch your thoughts and feelings about using platforms for appointments. I’m trying to figure out how to distribute the survey to most deaf/HOH people of all demographics and state/regions in the US and get AS MUCH responses as possible. Using deaf-centered platforms and social media will help us reach out to targeted audiences. It would benefit the deaf community tremendously. The findings from this study will help us understand the experience of deaf and hard of hearing individuals’ use of telehealth and best ways to provide support for equitable access.

I have a video made with a statement and let me know if you’re willing to spread the words/collaborate with our effort to improve telehealth especially with COVID-19 pandemic! I can send the embedded video for you to use on social media or if you rather use our flyer. Any ways to share works!

This study is approved by the RIT Institutional Review Board (IRB). The survey contains a consent form and information about the purpose on the first page before proceeding to complete. Participants can choose if they want to enter a raffle drawing for one of 5 $100 gift cards at the end of the survey. We have each question signed in ASL with captions and written English found below the video, making it accessible for all deaf people of various identities.

The lab is led by wonderful deaf researchers, doctors, and professionals, and I am also deaf!

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions, we will LOVE to hear back from you! I have the links below to our lab’s website and facebook page if you want to check us out. I attached the link to the qualtrics survey if you qualify and want to take the survey/ check it out before sharing it with your acquaintances and members of your association.

Follow us to keep updated on future surveys!

link to DHL’s website: https://www.rit.edu/facilities/deaf-health-laboratory
link to DHL’s FB page: https://www.facebook.com/deafhealthlab
SURVEY LINK: https://rit.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8ogeykh83sK9Hil

Gratefully,

Ashley Mussallem
Research Assistant | Deaf Health Lab
NTID Center on Culture and Language @ Rochester Institute of Technology

Telehealth for deaf people about ACCESS Hello!
