Job Summary<\/p>\n

Full-time, tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in American Sign Language (ASL) to begin August 2022. The successful candidate should be a specialist in American Sign Language as well as have a strong commitment to research and professional service. Candidates with experience and\/or interest in interdisciplinary work will be given priority. Experience in online instruction and interpreting, and knowledge of a language other than English are welcome.<\/p>\n

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and\/or service as well as a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.<\/p>\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n

The new ASL Assistant Professor will:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Teach courses in ASL
\n\u2022 Conduct research and scholarly activities appropriate for an R1 institution,
\nor demonstrate potential for such activity
\n\u2022 Participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives
\n\u2022 Serve the department as needed<\/p>\n

The successful candidate will serve as coordinator of the department\u2019s ASL program and will be tasked with building the program toward a minor.<\/p>\n

Required qualifications
\nCandidates should have a Ph.D. degree in ASL, Deaf studies, Disability studies, or relevant field at the time of joining the faculty. Strong leadership skills are also required.<\/p>\n
