The University ranks No. 1 nationally in the Military Times\u2019 annual \u201cBest for Vets: Colleges\u201d list, is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution and has approximately 240,000 alumni making an impact across Texas and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>UTA currently requires periodic COVID-19 testing for all employees.<\/p>\n<p>Job Summary<\/p>\n<p>Full-time, tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in American Sign Language (ASL) to begin August 2022. The successful candidate should be a specialist in American Sign Language as well as have a strong commitment to research and professional service. Candidates with experience and\/or interest in interdisciplinary work will be given priority. Experience in online instruction and interpreting, and knowledge of a language other than English are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and\/or service as well as a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>The new ASL Assistant Professor will:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Teach courses in ASL<br \/>\n\u2022 Conduct research and scholarly activities appropriate for an R1 institution,<br \/>\nor demonstrate potential for such activity<br \/>\n\u2022 Participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives<br \/>\n\u2022 Serve the department as needed<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will serve as coordinator of the department\u2019s ASL program and will be tasked with building the program toward a minor.<\/p>\n<p>Required qualifications<br \/>\nCandidates should have a Ph.D. degree in ASL, Deaf studies, Disability studies, or relevant field at the time of joining the faculty.
