<\/gwmw><\/p>\n\n\n\nAustin, Texas \u2013 March 2, 2022 \u2013 Today, the Texas School for the Deaf\u2019s (TSD) sign choir performs at the Texas Independence Day celebration at the state capitol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Celebrate Texas! commemorates the history of the Lone Star State and Texas\u2019 independence from Mexico in 1836. The capitol celebration includes performances by area school groups and organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Continuing the tradition formerly hosted for more than 11 years by Kirk Watson when he was a state legislator, Senator, Sarah Eckhardt, invited TSD to perform God Bless America and God Bless Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event wasn\u2019t held last year, but this year, Claire Bugen, TSD Superintendent, looks forward to the students\u2019 return to participate in this special tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see our students return to the capitol and perform to songs in American Sign Language (ASL) to celebrate our great state of Texas and the language vibrance of our Deaf community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
