National Disability Employment Awareness Month <\/p>\n
Every year the Texas Governor’s Committee on Disabilities commissions
\na poster commemorating National Disability Employment Awareness Month
\n(NDEAM). This year’s poster was created by Artist Bobby Benefield, a
\n14-year veteran of the Department of Assistive & Rehabilitative
\nServices (DARS) and an accomplished artist active in the national and
\nlocal art scenes. <\/p>\n
Mr. Benefield was identified by UNTWISE as an emerging leader in the
\nfield of rehabilitation. In late summer of 2006, he was invited to
\nparticipate in an experimental program that paired a community
\nrehabilitation provider with a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
\nThe Leadership Project resulted in several collaborations between the
\ntwo agencies. Two were featured in previous issues of the e-News
\nBulletin: a Career Expo in San Antonio, Texas, and a Housing &
\nEmployment Resources Expo (HERE) in Houston, Texas. Mr. Benefield
\nco-authored a manuscript, soon to be published as a UNTWISE Brief,
\ndescribing his work in the Ft. Worth area: a job fair targeted for job
\nseekers who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing.<\/p>\n
