What do CERT teams do in an emergency?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams help provide critical support\u00a0by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information, and organizing other volunteers at a disaster site.<\/p>\n

Volunteers trained in CERT also offer a potential workforce for performing duties such as shelter support, crowd control and evacuation.<\/p>\n

The role of a CERT volunteer is to help themselves and others until trained emergency personnel arrive.<\/p>\n

What is taught in CERT training?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The training covers: general disaster preparedness, fire safety and suppression, basic medical operations, light search and rescue, CERT team organization, disaster psychology and terrorism awareness. The training culminates with a mock search and rescue drill, where participants apply the skills and concepts learned in the training in an effort to \u201cdo the most good for the most amount of people\u201d.<\/p>\n
