All proposals related to research in hearing and<br \/>\nbalance, both basic and applied clinical, will be considered. <\/p>\n<p>DRF is the leading national source of private funding for basic and<br \/>\nclinical research in hearing and balance science. Each year DRF awards<br \/>\nresearch grants in the amount of up to $25,000 to researchers who are<br \/>\ndedicated to exploring new avenues of hearing and balance science. <\/p>\n<p>ELIGIBILTY: To be eligible for consideration, applicants should<br \/>\ndemonstrate experience and strong research training as well as<br \/>\nsufficient institutional support (facilities, time, and mentorship) to<br \/>\ncarry out the proposed work. Applicants should hold the M.D., Ph.D.,<br \/>\nor equivalent degrees as well as a faculty or post-doctoral<br \/>\nappointment. Graduate students are not eligible for DRF grants.<br \/>\nApplications from Principal Investigators with research funds<br \/>\nexceeding $100,000 will not be accepted. Applications for research<br \/>\ncontinuation or bridge funding should not be submitted. <\/p>\n<p>First Year Applicants: Please use the First Year Application form on<br \/>\nthe DRF web site. Application and all supporting documentation must be<br \/>\nsent in electronic formats. Electronic format requires a PDF file and<br \/>\nmust be uploaded through DRF web site. First Year Application is due<br \/>\nby 5 PM EST on December 1, 2008. Late applications will not be<br \/>\naccepted. The purpose<br \/>\nof this award is to support clinical research projects in hearing and<br \/>\nbalance science. Clinical research involves human participants and may<br \/>\nbe directed toward diagnosis, epidemiology, genetics, clinical<br \/>\npathophysiology, and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>ELIGIBILTY: To be eligible for consideration, candidates for this<br \/>\naward should hold the M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degrees as well as a<br \/>\nfaculty or post-doctoral appointment and demonstrate experience and<br \/>\nstrong research training as well as sufficient institutional support<br \/>\n(facilities, time, and mentorship) to carry out the proposed work.<br \/>\nIdeal candidate should be in their first 5 years after completion of<br \/>\nformal training. A faculty mentor should be identified and a letter of<br \/>\nsupport and availability should be included in the application.<br \/>\nPrevious DRF or AAO-HNS Foundation research grant recipients are<br \/>\neligible to compete for this grant. However, candidates who have<br \/>\nsuccessfully obtained funding from a private or federal funding agency<br \/>\nfor the same research are ineligible. Candidates who have applied for<br \/>\nsupport of the same research from other funding sources, and who are<br \/>\nnotified of an award from both another agency and from DRF must choose<br \/>\nonly one of the awards.<\/p>\n<p>FORMAT: Applications are in a similar format to the National<br \/>\nInstitutes of Health.
